We are looking for a highly technical, focused, and driven individual who is interested in developing a career in catastrophe modelling and reinsurance analytics. There will be two main aspects to the position: the first is working in close collaboration with the underwriting team, the second is technical project work and systems development. This will require aptitude and experience for programming and / or a demonstrated command of math, statistics, probability, and advanced analytical techniques.

About the Research and Analytics Reinsurance Team
Add value through efficient, top class analytics.
Working together, the role of the 10-member team is to help ensure that Hiscox Re derives the maximum amount of profit from a given level of exposure to risk. Our motivated team ensures the entire organization has the best available science, information, and analysis for all decisions involving natural catastrophe and other risk.

What We’re Looking For:
• University degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Sciences, Geology or similar. Post-graduate study in a technical discipline would be highly desirable
• Around 3-5 years’ relevant experience (transferrable aptitudes and strengths from other strengths will be considered)
• SQL and Excel experience and knowledge in programming languages such as VB.net or C and statistical applications (such as R; Matlab; IDL etc)
• Systems development experience would be advantageous
• A demonstrated command of probability, statistics, and the application of these to real world problems. Potentially suitable for qualified / part qualified actuary or similar
• Strong analytical and statistical skills in order manipulate large data sets, interpret results and distil large amounts of information into key findings
• A demonstrated logical, numerical and structured approach to problem solving, with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Strong communication skills and confidence to present ideas
